We also thought it would be interesting to see what a Mother’s perspective of Mother’s day is… So we asked Janine (the wife of director Sebastian, and mother of three):
Q. So, you are a mother, could you tell me a little bit about your children, just to set the scene?
A. I have three children, aged 18, 8 and 4(2 boys and a girl) my oldest son is a fine musician and artist, my middle boy is also a fine artist and goes to a Steiner school. My daughter is a strong-willed delight, and also goes to a Steiner kindergarten.
Q. So your children go to Steiner school? How is that different to a normal school?
A. At a Steiner school, they allow children to be children, my youngest son has just had his first homework at the age of 8, which was building a log cabin from natural materials. I think that this freedom allows their thinking and imagination to develop freely.
Q. What would you say is the most rewarding aspect of Motherhood?
A. Watching your children develop their own personalities, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing how each child is different, and watching as they get more complex personalities.
Q. And what has been the hardest part so far?
A. Definitely sleepless nights. I can handle anything else – as long as there is a good supply of tea bags, that is!
Q. Would you say that it is more important to have a holistic view of motherhood, or to take every day as it comes?
A. I think a combination of both, it’s always nice to have a plan, but sometimes it just doesn’t work!
Q. What is the most important thing you could teach your children?
A. I would say that the Golden Rule, the most important thing you can teach your child, is to show love and understanding to others.
Q. And are there any mothering essentials that have helped you look after your children?
A. It’s got to be a sling. If I hadn’t had a sling I might not have made it through the first few years!
Q. We have been wondering: As a mother, would you rather receive a practical Mother’s day gift, or something just to treat yourself with?
A. Something just to treat myself with – we mothers need to be pampered every now and then to keep going!
Q. Bearing that in mind, we come to the final, most important question: what is it that you would really like for Mother’s day?
A. Luxurious skincare. The biggest treat for me would be some gorgeous Ananne skincare. The cleanser is the best I have ever tried, and its light creamy texture doesn’t dry out my skin, or leave it feeling oily! It even works on tough mascara!
Thank you Jan for those thoughts, and I hope that our final question helps you this Mother’s day!
